Ageing Workshop to be held virtually
Due to the uncertainty around the Covid-19 outbreak, the Ageing Workshop (originally scheduled to be held in Bologna) will now take place virtually.
The workshop will have the topics of glycans and ageing. More information can be found at the event page.
16-19 February 2020: Annual network meeting
The third annual network meeting took place in Leiden this week and involved a Research Day with the ESRs providing updates on their research, training for the ESRs and board meetings. The meeting went well and several network discussions took place, with the ESRs encouraged to think about the next steps of their research as well as multi-disciplinary collaboration.
November 2019: First publications with ESRs as co-authors
Tamás Pongrácz (ESR1) and Iva Budimir (ESR6) have recently had their first publications published where they are co-authors:
Tamás published a paper in Molecules in October 2019, and Iva’s paper was in Mathematics in November 2019. More details can be found on the Publications page.
27 September 2019: European Researchers’ Night
Several of our ESRs participated at events in Bologna and Sarajevo with the aim of bringing their research to the public and also encouraging young people to pursue research careers.
16-18 June 2019: Public engagement activities
The ESRs participated in public engagement activities in Croatia, and this included giving a workshop to local schoolchildren, delivering a talk to students at the University of Split, and speaking to the general public. The activities were related to the popularization of science by promoting awareness about the impact of environmental and other factors on ageing. The ESRs disseminated their work with IMforFUTURE, and also talked about the multidisciplinary nature of their research.
25-28 March 2019: Annual network and mid-term review meeting
The second annual network meeting took place in Edinburgh this week, and also involved the MTR meeting with the EU project officer. The week was successful and provided an opportunity to review the first half of the network.
22 February 2019: LASR Workshop 2019
This year’s Leeds Annual Statistical Research (LASR) Workshop will take place from 24-26 June 2019, and is partly funded by the Alan Turing Institute and the IMforFUTURE network. The themes of the workshop will be temporal data and bioinformatics.

Five scientific papers that acknowledge IMforFUTURE have now been published by network members – see the Publications page for more details.

31 January 2019: Mid-term review report submitted
The mid-term review report has been submitted to the EU participant portal and contains details on all aspects of the network throughout the first half of the project. The report will be discussed with the EU project officer and expert reviewer at the mid-term review meeting, which is scheduled for 26 March 2019 in Edinburgh. There will also be a research day, network meetings and training from 25-28 March 2019.
8-12 October 2018: Training meeting for the fellows
This training meeting consisted of scientific modules and team building sessions, as well as a meeting of the ESR forum. It was a successful week and allowed fellows to collaborate and get to know each other better.
4 September 2018: All fellows have now started with the network
Annah Muli arrived on 20 August and is working at the University of Leeds under the supervision of Jeanine Houwing-Duistermaat and Arief Gusnanto; and Arianna Landini started this week and is working with James Wilson at the University of Edinburgh.
They will all have the opportunity to meet and get to know each other at the next network meeting in Leeds next month.
1 June 2018: New fellow
Zhujie Gu has started with the network on 1 June – he is working under the supervision of Hae-Won Uh at UMC Utrecht.
The final two fellows are due to start at Leeds and Edinburgh in the next few months.
26-28 March 2018: Annual network meeting in Zagreb
The first annual network meeting with fellows and partners took place at the BioCentar in Zagreb, Croatia, from 26-28 March 2018. The meeting comprised of committee meetings, as well as training sessions for the fellows, and also allowed the network to get to know each other.
1 March 2018: We welcome three new fellows to the network
Frania Zuñiga Bañuelos is working at glyXera under the supervision of Erdmann Rapp; Azra Frkatović has started under the supervision of Gordan Lauc at Genos; and Samira Smajlović will start shortly at the University of Zagreb under the supervision of Vlatka Zoldos.
1 February 2018: Two new fellows
On 1 February 2018, two new fellows started with the network:
Tamás Pongrácz is working under the supervision of Manfred Wuhrer at Leiden University Medical Centre, and Md Shafiqur Rahman is working at King’s College London under the supervision of Frances Williams.
10 January 2018: The first fellows have started with the network
Iva Budimir and Anna Carbó Meix started working at the University of Bologna in November 2017, under the supervision of Gastone Castellani and Paolo Garagnini respectively.
In January 2018, Maarten van Schaik started at the University of Leeds, under the joint supervision of Jeanine Houwing-Duistermaat and Arief Gusnanto.
More fellows are due to start in the next few months.
25 September 2017: Statistical Modelling publication
Discussion paper by three members of the network published online at the Statistical Modelling journal – see the literature page for more information.
28 June 2017: Kick-off meeting
The kick-off meeting for the project took place at the University of Leeds on 28 June 2017 (following the start of the project on 1 April 2017). An overview of the project was given and all partners introduced their research relating to the project. There were also discussions on the training and research programmes and other network issues, including milestones, deliverables, and future meetings.
