European Researchers’ Night 2019

Several of our ESRs took part in the European Researchers’ Night on 27 September 2019. According to the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions website, it involves “public events dedicated to bringing researchers closer to the public. They showcase the diversity of research and highlight the impact of research on our daily lives. The aim is also to motivate young people to embark on research careers. The events promote how researchers contribute to our society by displaying their work in an interactive and engaging forum”.

Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina

Samira Smajlović and Azra Frkatović participated at the event in Sarajevo. They used the pre-made snakes and ladders game from the Children’s Workshop to attract a younger audience – several curious children came to the stand and this enabled Samira and Azra to promote IMforFUTURE and give advice for healthy ageing; a few of the games were also handed out for the children to play at home.

They were also there as representatives of the Marie Curie Alumni Association and they had a stand together with the EU Information Center, where they held promotional material for MCAA, MSCA and other EU funded projects.

Research without borders – notte Europea dei ricercatori

Iva Budimir, Anna Carbó Meix, Zhujie Gu, and Maarten van Schaik joined other ITN projects at a stand of the Italy Chapter of the Marie Curie Alumni Association. There were about 20 participants from different ITNs, and everyone brought an object related to his/her research. Additionally, there were cards with short descriptions of each researcher together with a photo and keywords related to their research. Members of the general public, who were visiting the Researchers’ Night, played a game where they matched the cards with the objects, and then had short conversations with the researchers about their work. The desk was crowded with people almost constantly and until midnight!
